Horton, Inc. has an opening for a Buyer to work at our location in
Britton, South Dakota. This job is onsite Monday-Friday. Position
Summary:The Buyer correlates planning and scheduling to coordinate
order release dates for manufacturing. Their responsibility is to
obtain maximum utilization of machines and equipment and timing of
assembly, shipping, and other related operations. They also develop
general company-wide cross-functional relationships. The Buyer
analyzes various materials and services for different suppliers and
develops strategic supplier relationships as necessary to serve the
needs of production and purchasing. Company Information:

Responsibilities
Buyer Job Responsibilities:
- Provide input on policies and procedures for the purchasing
process. Also providees input on continuous improvement of the
purchasing process, including transaction processing internally and
with suppliers.
- Plans material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of
approved materials timed to meet deliver requirements.
- Plans inventory from forecast and actual demand while
maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
- Works with planning and customer service to alter schedules to
accommodate unforeseen conditions such as parts availability, order
priority or machine break downs.
- Plans and analyzes the procurement of materials to assure
accurate and timely on-hand quantities based on production
estimates relative to economic order points and lead time
parameters.
- Responsible for MRO purchases.
- Assure the continuous supply and timely procurement of
materials to ensure that production operates at optimum efficiency
and effectiveness.
- Assist in price/cost analysis and development of long-term
purchase contracts for purchased products, goods, and
services.
- Communicates with all suppliers, company requirements and
expectations.
- Interview potential and current suppliers and maintain close
contact, including site visits, and supplier visits to Horton.
- Assist in transportation service for regular, expedited,
re-consigned, or diverted shipments based on production schedule
changes or outages.
- Expedite deliveries of product and materials, and where
necessary, get interdepartmental coordination for alternative
suppliers or product if delivery is not available when
required.
- Prepare price/cost estimates from quotes, bids, and proposals
with a cost reduction strategy towards cost saving goals.
- Track the expediting of components from ordering through
inspection.
- Develop suppliers to support inventory management programs such
as consignment or Kanban.
- Provide input on supplier performance for on-time delivery and
quality expectations and takes action when a supplier is not
performing to desired levels.
- As with everyone on the team, other duties may be assigned in
order to support the overall success of the company.
Qualifications
Qualifications of Buyer:
- Requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related
business field plus 2 years of Purchasing related work experience
in a manufacturing environment.
- Or requires a 2 year Associate degree plus 8 years of
Purchasing related work experience in a manufacturing
environment.
- Or the educational equivalent for the Bachelor's degree equals
8 years of Purchasing related work experience.
- Or the educational equivalent for the Associates degree equals
4 years of Purchasing related work experience.
- Experience in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook required.
- Experience in Oracle a plus.
- Must have legal authorization to work in the United States. No
